WoW Forever Rogue keeps Stealth, Energy and Combo Points but changes how poisons, weapons and talents work together. Poisons can coexist with temporary weapon enchantments, Sap no longer breaks Stealth, and Rogues can learn one-handed axes. Assassination, Combat and Subtlety then support different weapon requirements and finishing decisions. The useful starting point is those confirmed rules, rather than assuming a familiar Classic weapon or build still fits every ability.
01
Poisons and preparation changes
All poisons receive more charges in Blizzard's preview. They can be applied alongside temporary weapon enchantments such as Weightstones and Sharpening Stones. This removes an earlier compatibility restriction rather than proving that any particular consumable is always the right choice. Before a session, compare the weapon effects and the poison-related talents you actually selected.
Improved Poisons gives poison-focused Rogues a greater chance for poison effects not to consume charges. The source presents that change as support for Assassination's poison-centered playstyle. Charges still matter, so the talent should not be read as a promise that poisons never need attention. Exact current charge totals, costs and an optimal consumable shopping list are not established by the collected article.
02
Stealth and tactical crowd control
Sap no longer breaks Stealth as a baseline rule, rather than requiring the old Improved Sap investment. Blizzard describes this as a way to contribute controlled preparation when a group contains more enemies than can safely be tanked together. Distract also reduces affected enemies' Stealth detection for a short time. The effect can warn opposing players that a Rogue is nearby, so its player-versus-player implications are not identical to its use against creatures.
Dirty Tricks replaces Improved Sap with reduced Energy costs for Sap and Blind. Improved Distract supports the radius and detection effect, while other Subtlety talents alter Stealth-related preparation. Those changes make it worth distinguishing a baseline control rule from a benefit that depends on talents. They do not remove the need to read each ability's valid targets and restrictions in your current client.
03
Axes, daggers and ability requirements
Rogues can now learn to equip one-handed axes, expanding the weapons available to the class. That permission does not override the weapon requirements of a particular attack. Mutilate, for example, explicitly requires daggers in both hands. A weapon can therefore be usable by the class without being usable for the skill around which you planned your build.
Combat's Hack and Slash combines the former individual weapon-specialization talents and adds support for axes. Axes gain the same extra-attack type of benefit as swords, while maces receive armor-ignoring support rather than a stun chance. The talent is about different bonuses for different weapons, not a statement that all weapon types are mechanically interchangeable. Inspect both the equipped weapon and the ability requirement before using an older equipment list.
04
Assassination and Mutilate
Mutilate is a new 21-point milestone that strikes with both weapons, gains extra damage against a poisoned target and grants two Combo Points. Each hand can trigger relevant effects, but Seal Fate activates exactly once if either or both hands critically strike. That distinction prevents treating two simultaneous critical results as two independent guaranteed Seal Fate activations. The talent's dagger requirement remains part of the same decision.
Remorseless Attacks, Lethality, Cold Blood and other talents receive explicit Mutilate interactions. Cold Blood moves to the 16-point milestone, while Vigor becomes a regular two-point talent instead of the final milestone. These changes alter both access and relationships within the tree. A point allocation copied from an older calculator can miss the prerequisites and milestone positions described in Forever's preview.
05
Venom and finishing decisions
Venom is a new 31-point milestone finisher that improves poison damage and the chance to apply poisons. Its duration depends on the Combo Points spent, giving the finisher a maintained-benefit purpose rather than simply a direct hit. Blizzard expects Assassination to emphasize maintaining Venom and Slice and Dice, with damaging finishers such as Rupture and Eviscerate receiving lower priority. That is the developer's stated direction, not a tested sequence for every fight length or equipment set.
Improved Expose Armor is also redesigned around Energy cost and Combo Point refunds at a full-point use. Malice extends critical chance to attacks and poisons rather than only melee attacks. Improved Kidney Shot benefits the Rogue's own attacks and poisons instead of everyone attacking the target. Those are personal interactions to understand when comparing a finisher's purpose, resource cost and effect on your own damage.
06
Combat supports more than one builder
Combat receives Improved Eviscerate in its first row and a stronger damage benefit. Flawless Execution becomes a 16-point milestone that reduces Eviscerate's Energy cost. Puncturing Wounds supports Mutilate critical chance as well as a chance for Backstab to award another Combo Point. The source explicitly describes a desire to support Backstab-oriented play alongside Sinister Strike-oriented play.
Aggression also supports Backstab, while Precision extends hit chance to spells and attacks, including poisons. Weapon Expertise reduces the chance that a target dodges or parries rather than preserving its previous design. Endurance changes Sprint and Evasion cooldowns by a percentage. These effects concern different parts of the combat toolkit, so none alone establishes a best Combat weapon or leveling allocation.
07
Subtlety, bleeds and combat tricks
Subtlety adds ways to connect attacks used in combat with attacks commonly associated with a Stealth opening. Cutthroat gives Backstab a chance to allow the next Ambush without Stealth. Quietus improves specified attacks against low-health targets, while Dirty Deeds lets Garrote be used without being behind the target. These are distinct talent effects and should not be generalized into a rule that every Stealth attack is always available during combat.
Hemorrhage supports Rupture damage on its target, and Thousand Cuts reduces the Energy cost of a subsequent Hemorrhage or Backstab as Rupture deals damage. Premeditation moves to the 16-point milestone with a longer duration. The tree therefore contains both preparation tools and sustained bleed interactions. Which combination performs best in a particular encounter remains a question for current testing rather than a conclusion in the preview.
08
Group interactions and a first session
Expose Armor's reduction is increased to match an approximately equivalent full Sunder Armor application. Expose Armor no longer prevents a Warrior from using Sunder Armor to generate threat, although replacement of the armor-reduction effect still follows the described strength relationship. Feint's threat reduction is doubled in the baseline update. These changes explain a group interaction without claiming that threat management can be ignored.
For your first session, choose a builder and verify its weapon requirements before arranging the rest of the action bar. Keep Energy and Combo Points easy to read, then practise a controlled Stealth approach with an escape option in mind. Check the poison and finisher descriptions relevant to your chosen path instead of preparing every ability as though it has equal priority. This is a learning order based on the announced rules, not a tested fastest leveling route.
09
Sources and pending confirmation
The guide uses Blizzard's Rogue and Warlock deep dive, including the baseline changes and the three Rogue talent sections. Talent access begins at level 10, Dual Specialization is described at level 40, and major-city class trainers handle changes. Optimal allocations, launch BiS, exact current poison inventories and measured damage rankings remain pending confirmation. Compare this beta explanation with newer official notes and current tooltips when a behavior differs.
