Shaman WoW Forever makes totems easier to manage without removing the importance of choosing and placing them well. Persistent buff totems last five minutes, weapon imbues last an hour, and new tracking and Call tools reduce repeated setup. Totemic Recall arrives at level 20 and Totemic Projection at level 22. Blizzard's October 7 preview also notes that Recall's intended mana refund was bugged in the beta, so the announced effect and observed behavior must be kept separate.

01

Longer-lasting totems and a tracking interface

The preview changes every totem's global cooldown from 1.5 seconds to one second. Persistent buff totems last five minutes, while totems with shorter durations are not extended by that rule. The new tracking interface shows which totems are active and how much time remains. Right-clicking in that interface can instantly dismiss a totem, making it useful for managing more than the duration alone.

Resistance Totems provide their resistance benefit to the entire raid group in the official design. Other totems still have individual descriptions and relationships that need to be read rather than inferred from that change. Longer duration does not mean a placed totem automatically stays useful after the group moves. Positioning remains part of the class's role, which is why the update adds movement and recall tools alongside the interface.

02

Call spells and planned totem sets

Call of the Elements is learned at level 20 and unlocks the totem bar interface. You can prepare a set of four totems, one for each element, and summon the set with a single three-second cast. The mana cost is the combined cost of all four totems, rather than a new discount automatically attached to the Call. A convenient control can therefore still commit resources to totems the current situation does not require.

Call of the Spirits arrives at level 30 and provides a second prepared set. Call of the Ancestors arrives at level 40 and provides a third set. These are additional saved choices rather than instructions that every set should contain the same four abilities. Compare the effects needed for your current party before deciding what belongs in each available set.

03

Recall, Projection and the documented beta bug

Totemic Recall is learned at level 20 and destroys all active totems. Its intended design returns a quarter of the mana cost, but the article explicitly says that the refund was not occurring because of a beta bug. That note is tied to the publication's build and does not prove the bug remains unresolved in every later client. Current refund behavior should be checked against newer official notes or the installed tooltip and gameplay.

Totemic Projection is learned at level 22 and teleports all totems to a chosen location within 30 yards. The preview gives it a one-minute cooldown and a cost based on base mana. It changes placement without making the decision free or available continuously. Learn the relationship between relocating useful totems and recalling unnecessary ones before treating either tool as a fixed step after every pull.

04

Weapon imbues and temporary enchantments

Frostbrand Weapon, Flametongue Weapon, Rockbiter Weapon and Windfury Weapon last 60 minutes in the preview. These imbues can also coexist with temporary weapon enchantments such as Sharpening Stones, Weight Stones and Wizard Oil. That is a confirmed compatibility change, not a recommendation that any specific consumable is best for every role. The weapon, your chosen talents and the current effect descriptions still determine what is relevant to your session.

Windfury Totem becomes a party-wide buff rather than a weapon enchantment, but a Shaman using Windfury Weapon cannot also benefit from it. The preview also makes Windfury Totem exclusive with Grace of Air and Flametongue Totem for party benefit. Flametongue Totem has its own comparable restriction for a Shaman using Flametongue Weapon. Those interactions show why simply placing every available buff does not guarantee that all effects contribute together.

05

Fire Nova and faster elemental casting

Fire Nova replaces Fire Nova Totem with a spell that erupts at the location of the Shaman's current Fire Totem. The existing Fire Totem can therefore become the position from which repeated area damage is triggered. That makes the position of a useful Fire Totem part of an offensive decision rather than only a setup chore. The source does not give this page a tested area rotation or a safe number of enemies to pull.

Lightning Bolt's higher ranks receive a shorter cast time, and Chain Lightning's cast time is also reduced. Blizzard adjusts their spell-power coefficients to match rather than presenting the change as a free damage increase. Elemental talents then add relationships involving Lightning spells, Fire Nova and Lava Burst. Reading the baseline change together with talent effects is more useful than comparing cast time alone.

06

Elemental Combat and its new options

Elemental Alacrity moves earlier in the tree and affects Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and Lava Burst with revised potency. Lightning Overload gives Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning a chance to produce another copy with reduced damage and no mana cost or threat. Earthbound adds an immobilization effect when Earthbind Totem is placed. These changes create distinct casting and control decisions instead of merely preserving the old talent layout.

Lava Burst is the new 31-point milestone and gains additional damage against a target affected by the Shaman's Flame Shock. Elemental Mastery is removed, with Blizzard explaining the balance problem that informed that decision. Elemental Reach also supports range for selected Fire abilities. The revised tools establish what the tree offers, while its strongest launch allocation or damage comparison remains untested here.

07

Enhancement and weapon-driven support

Stormstrike moves to an earlier milestone and receives a shorter cooldown. It boosts the Shaman's next qualifying Nature spell rather than the next two Nature attacks from any attacker. Maelstrom Weapon adds charges from melee attacks that reduce Lightning Bolt's cast time, eventually allowing an instant cast with sufficient ranks and charges. Those interactions join weapon attacks and casting rather than making them two unrelated playstyles.

Spirit Weapons changes threat depending on whether Rockbiter Weapon is active, supporting both ordinary melee play and temporary tanking in small groups. Mental Dexterity relates Intellect to Attack Power, while Mental Quickness relates Intellect to spell damage and healing. Rage of the Farseer is a personal attack-speed cooldown inspired by earlier Heroism and Bloodlust designs. It is not a party-wide version of those abilities, so old expectations should not be carried over by name.

08

Restoration, first choices and confirmation

Restoration adds Water Shield, which restores mana from incoming attacks or qualifying critical heals. Mana Tide Totem moves to the 16-point milestone, and Riptide becomes the 31-point milestone with an initial heal and a periodic effect. Riptide also increases Chain Heal's effectiveness on an affected target. These are concrete interactions to inspect when preparing to heal rather than a published healer ranking.

This guide combines the baseline and talent material in Blizzard's Mage and Shaman deep dive. Begin by choosing whether the equipment and abilities for your next session support melee damage, spell damage or healing, then prepare totem sets relevant to that job. Current Recall refund behavior, exact launch builds, final gear priorities and encounter-specific totem combinations remain pending confirmation. Talent access begins at level 10, and the official series describes Dual Specialization at level 40 as a later way to revisit your direction.
