The WoW Forever Legacy system is account-wide progression earned through challenges, with perks chosen separately for each non-Hardcore character. You unlock it after earning your first Legacy Point, usually by reaching level 25 on your first character, though two other routes are also announced. At launch, the system offers 65 challenges while each character can spend at most 16 points, so earning points and allocating them are different decisions.
01
How to unlock the Legacy interface
Blizzard's dedicated Legacy article lists reaching level 25, reaching skill 150 in a non-gathering primary tradeskill, or exploring the entire world map as ways to earn the first point and gain access. The level-25 route is described as the likely first unlock for most players, rather than the only possible requirement. Once unlocked, open the shield-shaped Legacy menu icon or use the default Y hotkey.
The map challenge requires exploring the entire world map on the same character. The tradeskill route refers specifically to a non-gathering primary profession, so a gathering milestone is not interchangeable with that unlock condition. Read the challenge text on your current client before investing time in a milestone you expect to qualify.
02
Challenges and the initial 65 points
Every completed Legacy Challenge awards one point, and the initial 65 challenges are divided into six categories. Classes contribute 27 points through reaching levels 25, 45 and 60 with each class, while Tradeskills contribute 18 through skill 150, 225 and 300 in each non-gathering primary profession. These are account progression objectives rather than a requirement to level every class before using any perk.
Player vs. Player contributes 12 points through specified ranks, Battleground reputations and weeks of the Field of Honor Season's Journey. Adventure contributes two points, for exploring the whole world map and completing the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline. Dungeons contribute three for completing the final bosses across the level 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60 groups, and Raids contribute three for the announced Onyxia, Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps objectives.
03
Account points and character allocations
Legacy Points are shared across your Battle.net account's non-Hardcore characters, but each character buys its own perks independently. One character can emphasize professions while another uses Adventure or Resourcefulness choices. Check the current character's allocations rather than assuming they mirror the first character that earned a point.
The launch spending cap is 16 points per character, even when the account has earned more. Blizzard explains that a single character can earn up to 29 points across the available categories, so an alternate character is not required to reach the spending cap. Alts broaden the journey and can complete additional account challenges, but they are a choice rather than a compulsory unlock method.
04
Professions perks
The Professions tree includes Working Overtime for skill-point chances, Bountiful Harvest for additional Scarce gathering resources, and Bartering for lower vendor gold prices. Performance can improve Merchant's Favor gains from the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics. Those two faction organizations are described as sources of new tradeskill activities, without a complete vendor or reward database in the cited article.
Master Chef can produce extra cooking results, while Luremaster can provide extra fish. Dedicated Study is a daily cooldown intended to accelerate tradeskills, or provide Elemental Essences once they have all reached skill 300. Use the current perk tooltip for its detailed conditions and values before assigning points around a particular recipe or income expectation.
05
Adventure perks
Well Rested increases the rested experience cap and its accumulation rate, and Thrill of Adventure restores a small amount of health and mana after a non-trivial kill. High Alert improves stealth detection outside Battlegrounds, while Field Guide reduces the one-hour cooldown for placing camping features. Field Medicine shortens Recently Bandaged, but its benefit excludes dungeons, raids and Battlegrounds.
Talented allows talent points to unlock up to five levels earlier than normal, depending on the perk's rules. Frequent Flier reduces flight costs and speeds up those flights. Neither announcement gives this guide a tested fastest leveling allocation, so compare the perks with the activities you actually plan to do.
06
Resourcefulness perks
Gourmand extends food buffs, Permanence extends party, raid and camping buffs, and Diplomat improves reputation gains. Reinforce reduces durability loss from death, while For Great Honor improves Honor gains. These are different conveniences, so a character's chosen activities determine which tooltips deserve closer attention.
The Quick and the Dead speeds up movement while running back to a body and makes party and raid buffs free after resurrection. Reagent Economy removes purchasable reagent requirements from class abilities and material costs from tier-one camping features. Read those scopes carefully rather than treating either perk as a general promise that all consumables or crafting recipes become free.
07
Changing choices and earning rewards
Blizzard's class deep dive directs players to a class trainer in a major city to change talents, including Legacy talents. Pending confirmation: It does not supply a verified fee table for those changes in the material used here. Plan the visit around your character's available points and intended activities, then confirm the current interface before committing the change.
Account points also advance a separate reward track with four launch rewards: Replica Ironforge Air Rifle, Spectral Bear Cub, Spectral Bear Tabard and Reins of the Spectral Bear. Earning beyond the 16-point spending cap can therefore still contribute to account rewards. Those reward names do not mean a character can spend every account point on perks.
08
Hardcore and future updates
Hardcore is planned after launch and has a separate direction of Legacy sharing. Ordinary-ruleset challenges do not transfer into Hardcore, while a challenge earned in Hardcore grants it in the other rulesets. Blizzard also plans 12 Hardcore-specific challenges because the PvP challenges cannot be completed there.
Future releases are intended to add challenges, perks and cosmetic rewards, with additional trees discussed for later development. Those plans do not establish a future point cap or guarantee that every proposed perk is already playable in beta. The English perk names are retained here so you can compare them directly with the cited announcement.
