WoW Forever Warlock separates damaging Banes from utility Curses and adds new links between demons, resources and damage schools. Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom become Banes, only one Bane from a Warlock can be active on a target, and summoned demons scale with their master's stats. Affliction, Demonology and Destruction then offer different ways to use those shared rules. The confirmed changes help you choose a direction, but they do not establish a strongest launch build or damage ranking.
01
Banes and Curses are different decisions
Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom become Bane of Agony and Bane of Doom. The baseline rule allows one Bane from each Warlock on an individual target, and effects that previously interacted with Curses also interact with Banes. The separation lets you consider damaging effects and utility Curses as different parts of the toolkit. It does not permit every Bane to be stacked by the same caster on the same enemy.
Curse of the Elements applies to all magic damage in the preview, and Curse of Shadows is removed. This means an old list that expects separate school-oriented versions is no longer a complete description of the class. Destruction also adds Bane of Havoc, which must be understood alongside the one-Bane restriction. Read the individual effect before deciding which damage-over-time or secondary-target purpose it should serve.
02
Life Tap and Soul Shard generation
Life Tap gains Spirit scaling, and the preview says its tooltip states the Spirit-based contribution to mana correctly. That is a reason to inspect both resource bars and the current tooltip rather than memorizing a value from another edition. Trading health for mana remains a decision about the situation your character is in. The source does not supply this article with a tested threshold for using Life Tap safely in every encounter.
Drain Soul has a progressive chance per tick to generate a Soul Shard. The chance increases after unsuccessful ticks until a shard is guaranteed, rather than promising a shard from every tick. That distinction matters when interpreting an unsuccessful tick as evidence of a bug. Exact generation probabilities, averaged resource income and an optimized shard-farming route remain pending confirmation here.
03
Demons and weapon imbues
Summoned demons scale from the Warlock's stats in the updated baseline design. A companion's performance is therefore connected to the summoner's equipment, although the preview does not give this page a complete coefficient table. Demonology adds more explicit relationships between your damage, resource use and the active demon. Learning pet attack and return controls is useful before relying on the companion to protect you during questing.
Firestone and Spellstone become weapon imbues that can coexist with temporary enchantments such as Wizard Oil. Firestone improves Fire damage and critical chance, while Spellstone improves Shadow damage and spell haste. These are distinct effects with different school relationships rather than two names for an identical bonus. Their availability does not prove which combination is best with every talent path or item.
04
Affliction: periodic effects and drains
Affliction adds support for periodic damage through Malediction and revised Corruption talents. Improved Drains supports Drain Life, Drain Soul and Wrack, while Pandemic improves the critical-damage bonus of specified periodic and drain effects. Nightfall also gains trigger interactions with Drain Soul and Wrack. These changes make it important to read which exact spells a talent names instead of assuming all damage-over-time effects are treated alike.
Soul Siphon relates drain effectiveness to other qualifying Affliction effects already on the target. Wrack is the new 31-point milestone, dealing periodic Shadow damage and increasing the target's damage taken from the Warlock's other Shadow damage-over-time effects. Blizzard describes it as a main drain-style spell between refreshing periodic effects or using instant Shadow Bolts. That stated role is useful context, but this page does not turn it into a tested optimal timing sequence.
05
Affliction utility and resource choices
Suppression is redesigned around hit chance and reduced threat, and Improved Life Tap moves earlier in the tree. Curse of Exhaustion moves to the 16-point milestone, providing a movement slow. Improved Bane of Agony and Fel Concentration change their point requirements while supporting the revised damage toolkit. These are specific reasons that an older calculator's point layout may fail to describe a Forever choice.
Some familiar talents are removed, including Dark Pact and Grim Reach. A talent name being present in an older guide is therefore not enough to assume it can be selected here. Compare the current tree's prerequisites and spell references before allocating points toward a remembered interaction. A final Affliction leveling allocation and a launch equipment list remain pending confirmation rather than being reconstructed from Classic.
06
Demonology: connecting yourself and a pet
Demonic Energies heals the demon from the Warlock's spell damage and can transfer mana gains from Life Tap to the summoned companion. Demonic Knowledge improves spell damage for both the Warlock and the demon while a pet is active. Demonic Brand connects Searing Pain to stronger subsequent pet attacks with effects that depend on the pet. Blizzard also notes a threat adjustment so a non-tanking Imp does not gain extra threat from the interaction.
Fel Vitality supports the maximum health and mana of listed demons while increasing the Warlock's maximum mana. Improved Health Funnel makes changes to transfer strength, generated threat and use when the demon is healthy. These mechanics are related but do not mean every demon should be used in the same way. Choose which interaction you want to learn before assuming a summoned pet is simply a passive damage bonus.
07
Sacrifice, Soul Link and Demonic Pact
Demonic Sacrifice moves to an 11-point milestone and its pet-specific benefits are redesigned. Soul Link moves to the 21-point milestone, while Demonic Pact becomes the 31-point milestone and requires Soul Link. Demonic Pact allows a sacrifice effect to remain when a different pet is summoned. Resummoning the sacrificed pet still cancels that sacrifice effect in the announced design.
This creates a specific connection between a sacrificed demon's benefit and a different active demon's bonus. Master Demonologist is also redesigned with distinct effects for the available pets. Blizzard presents combining those effects as a major Demonology decision rather than publishing one mandatory combination. Exact comparative performance, encounter recommendations and final summon choices remain pending confirmation for this guide.
08
Destruction and mixed damage schools
Conflagrate moves to the 16-point milestone, and Bane of Havoc becomes the 21-point milestone. Bane of Havoc transfers a portion of damage dealt to other enemies onto its selected target, subject to its stated limits. Incinerate is the new 31-point milestone and gains extra damage against a target affected by Immolate. These relationships give the tree identifiable priorities to study without supplying a verified endgame rotation.
Shadow and Flame connects Conflagrate to increased Shadow damage and Shadowburn to increased Fire damage. It also changes whether Conflagrate consumes Immolate and whether Shadowburn refunds a Soul Shard. Destructive Reach moves earlier and benefits all damaging spells, while Ruin becomes more accessible to mixed builds. The source therefore supports cross-school possibilities, but not a universal instruction to favor one school in every fight.
09
Your first direction and remaining gaps
Choose Affliction if the confirmed periodic and drain interactions interest you, Demonology if you want deeper links with a companion, or Destruction if you prefer its direct-damage and school interactions. Read the relevant Bane limit, pet controls and resource effects before attempting an elaborate sequence. Talents start at level 10, Dual Specialization is described at level 40, and major-city class trainers handle talent changes. These rules provide a way to explore choices as the beta evolves.
This guide is based on Blizzard's Rogue and Warlock deep dive and its general talent-system introduction. Optimal allocations, launch BiS, exact shard probabilities and measured damage comparisons remain pending confirmation. The beta preview explains intended mechanics and can be superseded by newer official updates or tooltips. Use it to identify which specific interaction needs checking rather than importing a complete build from another edition.
